Adult Outpatient Services
\
The outpatient services offered through the Circle of Life Behavioral Health Network provide individual, group, and family counseling for Native Americans seeking mental health/substance abuse treatment in a caring and supportive atmosphere. Recognizing that addiction is a family illness that is treatable, Circle of Life Behavioral Health Network strives to work with the individual and his/her system of significant others to develop a program of ongoing recovery. The program utilizes a holistic approach in addition to using motivational interviewing and the community reinforcement approach as best practices for substance abuse treatment. We recognize and fulfill each client's needs by helping them attain a thorough understanding of themselves and the recovery process while providing a safe, supportive environment.\

Gambling Addiction
\
Circle of Life Behavioral Health Network offers outpatient counseling for persons concerned about their gambling. Like other addictions, gambling involves an inability to stop, a desire to continue despite negative consequences, increased desperation, lying, social ruptures, job consequences, family disputes, severe mood swings, depression, and sad \"crash and burn\" endings. Gambling, unlike some other addictions however, can be hidden; there is no overdose in a literal sense. It can easily be ignored as an extremely common, pleasurable, and legal activity. The behavior is a very high stakes game, where friendships, family, finance, and reputations are all at great risk.
\
\
The Four Phases of Gambling Addiction
\
1.Winning Phase
\
\
This is a short or non-existent phase revealing several small or large wins, a sense of emotional escape from problems, a boost in self-esteem, and a sense of empowerment. Excitement, titillation, and a social life at the casino fill a vacuum in the life of the gambler.
\
\
2.Losing/Chasing Phase
\
\
In this phase losses are explained away as poor luck, no win is enough, and gambling alone begins. The individual hides his/her gambling as losses put the person behind a financial \"eight ball\". The addict begins to ignore family and becomes irritable when not gambling. Gambling becomes the sole, but spurious cooping mechanism. The individual gambles to \"take the edge off\" and is unapproachable about the problem. This phase can last multiple years, with progressively larger bets on longer odds. The gambler begins borrowing money to support the habit and family life spirals out of control.
\
\
3.The Desperation Phase
\
\
Lying and manipulating typify this period. Externalization of blame and complete lack of accountability are hallmarks of this phase. Acute anger at others who will not participate in the lie of his/her existence is typical.
\
\
Financial affairs are disastrous. Bills are unpaid; the family is suffering and powerless. The gambler wants it to end and may contemplate suicide. Death may be viewed as the only exit strategy. Only after the family forsakes the gambler, they have lost their job, they are being sued, and/or a complete lack of resources does an attempt at change occur.
\
\
4.The Hopeless Phase
\
\
This phase goes well beyond what most people would feel was more than \"bad enough\". This phase can involve clinical depression, suicide, or actions that will most assuredly land them in jail. This is \"make or break time\", quite literally.
\
\
Treatment for Gambling Addiction through the Circle of Life Behavioral Health Network often focuses not only on the gambling, but on accompanying depression, alcoholism, drug addiction or other compulsive activity. Counseling to explore the source of the psychological preconditions that might emanate from family and significant other relations is explored to determine if that is the source of the void that is being filled by the destructive behavior.
\

Intensive Outpatient Program
\
\
Circle of Life now offers an Intensive Outpatient Program for individuals who either may not necessarily need the structure of inpatient treatment, or who may need more intensive treatment than what outpatient services offer.
\
\
For instance, if an individual has never tried outpatient treatment, but seems to have difficulty staying sober, the Intensive Outpatient Program could be the ideal treatment option. Many times, individuals want to remain sober, but don’t necessarily want inpatient treatment. For these individuals, Intensive Outpatient Treatment could be a beneficial alternative. Intensive Outpatient Treatment can also be used as a \"step-down\" or \"aftercare\" upon discharge from inpatient treatment. Often, individuals who are discharged from inpatient treatment need further structure to help stay sober. In these situations, Intensive Outpatient Treatment is ideal.
\
\
The Intensive Outpatient Program offered by the Circle of Life utilizes the Matrix Model. This program is a 16 week, structured treatment experience designed to give substance abusers the knowledge, structure, and support to allow them to achieve abstinence from drugs and alcohol and initiate a long-term program of recovery. Certain components for the program (the individual/conjoint and family education) are designed to be used with the client and his or her spouse, significant other, or family members. The Intensive Outpatient Program addresses core clinical areas within five groups: Individual/Conjoint sessions, Early Recovery Skills group, Relapse Prevention group, Family Education group, and Social Support group. Urine analysis is also a critical clinical tool used with this program.
\
\
A brief description of these components follows:
\
\
Individual and Conjoint Sessions
\
These sessions are scheduled weekly and consist of eight one-hour meetings for the first two months followed by at least one each month for the next two months.
\
Early Recovery Skills Group
\
This group meets twice weekly and consists of eight one-hour group sessions during the first month of treatment.
\
Relapse Prevention Group
\
This group meets twice weekly and consists of thirty-two ninety-minute group sessions for sixteen weeks.
\
Family Education Group
\
This group meets once weekly and consists of twelve ninety-minute group sessions for the first three months.
\
Social Support Group
\
This group meets weekly and consists of ninety-minute group sessions, beginning at week thirteen.
\
\
Urine Testing
\
All clients are asked to provide a urine specimen for drug analysis one day (randomly selected) each week.
\
\
For individuals who are court ordered into treatment and who meet the admission requirements for inpatient services, court ordered Intensive Outpatient services upon discharge from inpatient treatment can often assist the individual's recovery.
\
\
